Coco Avant Chanel

The movie features the lovely Audrey Tautou as the legendary designer Coco Chanel...

"Chanel, above all else, is a style. Fashion, you see, goes out of fashion. Style, never"
- Coco Chanel (not YSL or Jun Daly Watkins)... it was Chanel

The release date for America and Australia still, sadly remains unknown. However in France it was set to be released on the 22nd April. The film pays homage to the enigmatic and influential Chanel- famous for popularizing the LBD, Chanel No.5 perfume (though i prefer madamoiselle), the tweed suit- classic femme tailoring and a style exemplified by pure elegance and simplicity.
Having perused several forums searching for the Australian release date, plenty of people have questioned the talent and 'look' of Audrey to play such an iconic figure in the world of fashion. I admit she has some shoes to fill, however i am more than optimistic and excited to watch her performance- and as Miss L was saying her role is being played by a french actress speaking the french tongue adding a sincere potrayal to the roots and rise of Coco Chanel.
Reading a brief biography on Chanel months ago in Marie Claire- her commitment and dedication to her designs where unparalled-
"But the moment I had to choose between the man I loved and my dresses, I chose the dresses. Work has always been a kind of drug for me, even if I sometimes wonder what Chanel would have been without the men in my life" - Chanel

Ironically i loved that quote, so looking the for the same one online- i stumbled across the article i read in the Marie Claire Magazine.

Chloe, blow the winter blues away...

Here in Sydney, Australia - although the sun is shining the mercury is dropping... and when the mercury drops, every smart fashionista knows its time to pack on the layers with a season to do a whole lot more with your closet!

Although I dislike the cold - I can't help but love the extra clothing. The numerous coats, jumpers and cardis as well as checking out the high-end threads especially what's for show by Miss Hannah Macgibbon at Chloe.

Embracing the feminine signature of Chloe Miss Hannah is no disappointment since the rein of miss pheobe philo at all producing a ready-to-wear collection that makes you just rethink what winter is really about...

Chiffon graced the runway with a classic balloon shape that was transcendent within this winter collection that made you swoon with delight. Miss Hannah evoked a girlie twist for traditionally boyish pieces keeping the seasons trend of tapered pants and rolled up hems for a conservative boyfriend look.

My personal favourite look (left) on Miss Lily Donaldson reminded me just why Chloe is the pure epitome of classic and sophisticated femininity.

til next time,
Miss L

Miss Violet's Drink and Chuck Taylors

If you ever find yourself in Canberra for some uninteresting reason i.e. a general excursion to site see the Parliament House or visiting long lost relatives or to hang out with the kids at Questacon (the fun equivalent of school)…
Don’t fret, Canberra is rich in hidden treasures. With a keen eye for finds you’ll find some recession-friendly Gold.

I bought these silver, low-cut chuck taylors for a mere $65.00, they are rrp $120.00. Chuck Taylors are a classic, everyone has a pair (or 2 or more) and come in handy for those stressful exam days when comfort calls and polished effort can wait!...

My cherished silvers... and considering the price and the economic climate- more than happy to purchase :)

If you, like me bought last months (March 09) Vogue , *to do the lusting after things I can’t afford ritual. You would have come across “HIGH STREET SUPPLEMENT” section and perused carefully just to see what might sparkle some interest…

There on the final page featured glittery in a navy blue are the sequenced chuck taylors for this season, the title “Twinkle Toes”- the rrp $120.00- recession friendly indeed. However the exact same pair are selling in Canberra for a kinder $85.00.
Purely for avid Chuck fans, and fashionistas alike...

Ever thought what a love potion would taste like? *maybe the kind Romeo and Juliet drank out of love & desperation... In the midst of the popular restaurant strip, is this sweet little café- Cafe Essen . It can be easily overlooked, but if spotted- the café’s smoothy entitled “LOVE” is not to be missed

LOVE ingredients – blueberries, raspberries, honey, milk and ice-cream. The size of the drink is more than enough for two! and is perfect for love birds...
the beautiful thing about the drink is the shade, why... it's Violet ofcourse...

Love,
Miss C

Roses and Ruffles

I just walked home in thick rain, my uniform drenched from head to toe and it came to me- winter has prematurely arrived (well at least for a day), in silent reflection I mused over my wardrobe- in there messily arranged are royal reds, greens, navy’s, shades of purples and of course staple black and white pieces… I wondered. What good are they?

* the beautiful photographs Miss L showed me the night before-
the tutu inspired dress with a red military waist coat:

... inspired, i decided to do some sib. borrowing and bf. borrowing. My sister's red taffeta skirt and boyfriends tee-shirt rolled up to an XS... the outfit is missing some navy and well military buttons... in other words i want that jacket (above) in navy please!

I also remembered the April ‘09 vogue cover and fell in love with the Bally peachy ruffle top! Seems like ruffles are making a fast come-back from the past to celebrate Spring 2009!
...with Moschino’s 09 range featuring ruffles on almost everything… flash back Sept 08 Milan Show for Spring 09:

(apologies for the photos... slight formatting issue... for the entire collection visit:http://content.coutorture.com/2068337)

....I love ruffles! And I recently received a ruffled dress as a present. The dress is Lisa Ho $699 rrp, and the gorgeous green/grey shade of it gives it a dark wintery feel, ala the dark gothicesque feel of Ricardo Tisci meets the peachiness of ruffles. I love Lisa Ho! …

I guess I’ll be hunting for a military jacket pretty soon… After all the future is looking rosy ...

Yours Truly,

Miss C

Bat your lashes, there are two suns!

I can't express how excited I am about the release of new Bat for Lashes second album, 'Two Suns'!

Still holding true to sounds produced in Fur and Gold, Two Suns is no disappointment - the haunting lulls of Natasha Khan mixed with instruments that can be only described as eclectic tribal with a modern twist. Teaming up with Brooklyn's finest psychedelic experimentalists Yeasayer, to produce serval tracks featured on the abum as well as the legendary Scott Walker to perform a duet with Natasha for the heart-wrenching torch song and album closer 'The Big Sleep'.

Natasha Khan is truly more than just an echo in the mist...

Femme Fatale

The ultimate pretty

Thanks to the likes of sophisticated, poised (not to mention a teaspoon of bitchy) females, such as the fictional Blair Waldorf… classic femme remains truly timeless, proving it was not just a fad or a trend, rather a style that has fluttered through time.

Despite the recent swoons and gasps (myself no exception) for the rather provocative entrance of a fashion wave once emulated by the likes of Grace Jones… -the conspicuous admiration for S&b black rats, stud encrusted belts and infamous gladiator heels…
It's easy to imagine the classic femme fading into a dark lustre. Nonetheless decadents of lace, intricate florals, pearls and baby-doll dresses rest assured remain silently in style, once again waiting for the light. Pretty is not lost thanks to the likes of the truly dedicated…

So when i came across Miss SarahSeven Etsy store my heart could not help but swoon in delight! Based in Portland Oregon, she describes her style as old Hollywood Glamour and is inspired by pearls, recycled fabrics, romance, nature, lace...

I am definitely considering purchasing one of these amazing dresses! But I'm finding it nearly impossible to decide which one!

Her bridal collection is amazing and I think if I were to marry anytime soon, I'd be burning the aisle in this modern number oozing with class!
